2012 OLYMPICS:
We collaborated with Speedo Aqualab to conceptualise and design the visual language for the Speedo Fastskin-3 suits, worn at the London 2012 Olympics. This encompassed all graphic elements and color use.Our motivation was to supply the athletes with informed, impactful design based on athlete insight, reinforcing their confidence, whilst representing their countries and standing out from their competitors.
We also wanted to unite the 3 separate elements of the outfits, cap, goggles and suit, into one unified design via color and graphic composition.
Working closely with the team at Aqualab, and on-site at Hermes’ own digital printing facility in the French Alps, ensured the designs were executed at the highest possible level. We also supplied art direction to Speedo’s in-house design team to leverage the exposure of the Olympic product throughout their retail collections.
Shown here are our designs for each federation.
SPEEDO MONOGRAM:
We were briefed to design a new iconic monogram pattern, specifically for the japanese market.
Our design consists of ‘s’ shapes running at 45 degrees, spliced by athletic stripes which add texture and ground the letter-forms. The pattern is trans-seasonal, but will evolve with seasonally relevant updates (such as scale, color, and materials), and over time it will become part of the brand dna.
During the project speedo decided that the pattern would be incorporated into collections from all regions.
